Biography

Mark Verlan (b. 1963 in Cocier, Moldova, d. 2017), (he/him), visual artist, of Romanian ethnical background, grew up in Moldova, lived and worked in Chișinău. Known by many names, Marioka Son of Rain („Marioca fiul ploii” in Romanian and „Marioca sin dozhdea” in Russian), or simply Mark, Marc, Maric, or Marik – he died at the age of 57, of a heart attack. Burial lot at Armenian Cemetery in central Chişinău. Mark’s art practice comprise a total universe: he created a planet of his own, populated with objects, drawings, painting, he invented his own language, grammar, and alphabet and prepared his own coat of arms showing a cat in meditation. Estate under care of Galeria Lutnița.
