Ernestina Schreiber, (she/her), visual artist, (b. 1913, Brașov, Romania, d. ?) of Swiss Germanic ethnical background, has lived in Romania.




Arrest under communist regime

Ernestina Schreiber was a toy painter who was arrested on November 21, 1959 on charges of "trafficking and possessing large quantities of gold coins." According to the arrest warrant, the artist was born on "August 12, 1913, in the city of Stalin (n.e. – Brașov), daughter of Iosif and Eliza of Swiss citizenship, German nationality, studied at the higher school of arts, profession as a toy painter, divorced, has 3 children, unknown political antecedents, with last residence in Breaza, Cîmpina district, Ploiești region (n.e. – Prahova county). The aforementioned was arrested because the statement given by Goller Eevin, sentenced for gold possession for 8 years, shows that they had connections: in the sense that she received the amount of 4,000 lei from him monthly and Schreiber Ernestina deposited large sums of money into his account in Switzerland. The aforementioned was also often seen visiting the Swiss Legation in Bucharest where she contacted various diplomats"[1].
