"Dan Vezentan - Artist Portrait" / (c) Dan Vezentan 2019

Biography

Dan Vezentan (b. in 1978, in Seini, Romania), (he/him), visual artist, of Romanian ethnical background, grew up in Romania, lives and works in Bucharest. As an agricultura storyteller, he explores the zootechnic and agricultural universe, presenting it subjectively as he recalls it from childhood. His works stem from the design of households, the animal feeding and watering systems or from the food stocking systems, investigating the production of food, surplus, biological waste and ecology. He grew up in the context of an agriculture based environment in Maramureș, northern Romania, surrounded by feeding machineries, technical husbandry manuals and animal anatomy books.

Artistic disciplines:

Process

Dan Vezentan's working process unfolds in situ, influenced by the local agricultural history, ecology and technologies used indigenously by agricultural workers.

Notable themes

Recurring theme in Dan Vezentan's works is food production, the agriculture work caught in the circular economy sphere and forgotten technologies, with a focus on surviving and basic needs, as well as aspects of commonning. He is inspired by the quiet ingenuity of rural agricultural technologies, reconfiguring them into visionary mechanisms and architectures of a utopian world.
