"Maria Bordeanu - Artist Portrait" / (c) Maria Bordeanu

Biography

Maria Bordeanu (b. in 1982, in Bucharest, Romania), (she/her), visual artist, of Romanian ethnical background, grew up in Romania, lives and works in Stockholm, with country of choice Sweden. Her artistic interests revolve around how time leaves traces – in nature, in memories, in objects. She often works from fragments: personal photographs, sculptures or lingering memories, exploring the connection between natural elements and everyday life. She has got a MFA degree in Painting from UNARTE Bucharest since 2007.

Artistic disciplines:

Process

Maria Bordeanu's working process starts from the observation of nature, personal photographs, landscapes, historical sculptural fragments and architectural interiors. These become layered and recomposed on canvas, producing visual conversations between past and present, surface and depth, image and idea.

Notable themes

Recurring themes in Maria Bordeanu's works are the nature, memory and history, exploring how they intersect, collide, and dissolve into one another, the interplay between the organic and the artificial. Water, often as reflection, surface, or mirror is one of her central motifs: it is always in motion, always transforming, and stands for both memory and perception, emphasizing the fluidity of reality and how our gaze shifts over time.
